In Topic: Bus Heraklion To Sitia

Hi,there is an express service to Agios Nikolas, but then you only pick up the bus from Heraklion anyway that you catch from the airport. If you stand outside of the departures entrance, back to the terminal, straight ahead and a bit to the left,is a road the other side of the traffic lights, going away from you.The bus stop is about 200 metres on your right, amongst the parked cars.Often you will get asked where you are going by returning taxi drivers,I have known Siteia taxis to charge you around 50 euros for the return fare, which is reasonable.Siteiataxi Giannis tel no.6995-900900,is a good man who speaks perfect English and the Siteia taxis keep in touch with each other for return fares from the airport.Saying that, the bus ride is quite spectacular, especially if you sit on the sea side of the bus, that is the drivers side .

Hope this helps, feel free to ask anything else Sally n Chas

Ps SiteiataxiYianni is on facebook as well, easy to contact.

Not wishing to be the bearer of bad news but came across this whilst browsing today - http://www.reuters.c...H00526920100305
Being in the wilds of ECrete not sure what will be affected, but flights in and out of Athens certainly were during the February round of strikes.

In Topic: Greece And The Euro

I think the problem is as much to do with the euro set up as it is to do with individual countries in the euro.As far as I can tell Greece is not doing anything different than when they joined the euro, and before that,so why be surprised? The system of one hat fits all countries was always going to cause problems, different countries have different priorities, lifestyles, etc.they manage their money in their own way.Surely if I know this then the people who matter?financiers, etc.were aware of it as well,so they must get on with it and sort it out.

Hi Dave W We live in the east,Axladia, lovely village just outside of Siteia.Once past A.Nikolas the tourists get less and less, though in August there are more people around,Greeks coming back to their villages,as with the rest of the Island. There are plenty of lovely beaches, from the deserted to the busy, depending on what you want. From here you have the luxury of 3 coasts, windy North ,very hot South,or quieter East, easy to get away from it all if you want.Siteia is an easy place to be,more of a working town than a tourist resort, whereas Makrigialos is the opposite.Lots of info to be had on here, check out the area on maps, and see what you fancy. If you need to know anything just ask
