Rethymnon Car Hire

22 March 2011 - 10:58 PM

Arriving in Rethymnon mid April and looking for a reputable car hire firm from which to rent a car for the week. Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations? And of course, those to avoid but you can PM these details rather than face the wrath of the libel/slander law( can never remember which is which)!!!!

East Crete Virgin Needs Help!

29 November 2009 - 08:24 PM

As a lot of you know I have been going to the same village outside of Chania for several years, but now feel a need to see some more of the island...but where to go? To visit anywhere from this village, that I haven't visited is a two hour drive away or more!
I like traditional villages, good tavernas and restaurants and definitely don't want to go to anywhere touristy or where I will bump into drunken northern European slobs!!
Any suggestions for the east of the island?

Thanks and looking forward to the replies.

Thanks to Yannis and the moderators for keeping this site relatively free of junk spam. Yet again there have been strange postings that have nothing to do with the original subject and which usually contain a link.

If you see anything that you feel is not quite 'right' don't be afraid to let the moderators know. It is far less work for them to delete such a posting than to try and sort it out after the event.

Thanks again.

Internet Banking

05 February 2009 - 09:52 AM

Not really a topic about Crete but I thought that some of you might do Internet banking and would like to know about this scam.
I checked my e-mails last night and found one from my High Street bank informing me that several unsuccessful attempts had been made to access my on-line account. Because of this my account had been frozen and that I should click on a link to their Security team to re-activate the account.
I use on-line banking regularly and was concerned about this but something didn't seem 'right' about the e-mail although it looked very professional and was in the banks' corporate colours.
I rang my bank and was put through to their Internet team who advised me that it was indeed an attempt to gain my account details and that I should forward the e-mail to them, delete it and then run a full security check of my computer.
It seems that this scam has been around for some time and uses most High Street banks.
One tip that the bank gave me was that they never address an e-mail as 'Dear customer' but use your name and that some figures from your account number would appear on the correspondence.
So take care if you do receive such an e-mail and ring your bank before you even think about opening it.

Songs My Country Taught Me

18 January 2009 - 11:35 AM

Although I have only just got hold of this CD it has been around for several years, on one site is described as being 'the perennial'. I would highly recommend it to everyone.
The songs by some of Greece's most well-known modern composers, are beautifully sung by Agnes Baltsa with some tremendous bouzouki playing from Kostas Papadopoulos and they cover a range of emotions.
The version I obtained was on the Deutsche Grammophon label in their 'Grand Prix' series.
If you can, get hold of a copy and hopefully you will get as much enjoyment from the music I am.

I have just used a search engine to try and find if there are other such recordings by this mezzo-soprano and did find another one! Or at least I thought I had but it seems that Deutsche G. also issued this under the title' From Greece with Love- Songs From the Olympics'.
