German Inscription - Wwii Air Crash?

01 April 2008 - 08:35 PM

I would be grateful for any info on the following, please.

Walking today, we came across an inscription in a mitato approximately half a kilometre from the EOS climbing hut at Volika. The (simple and quite small) carving was on one of the stones inside the mitato, with the initials "E.B.", a swastika and a cross. Friends accompanying us thought that it marked a German WWII aircraft crash site, but were not sure whether it was made by a crash survivor or retrospectively as a tribute to the casualty/casualties. If anyone knows anything about this, I would be interested to learn more.

Thanks
Paul
