Leaving the beach you could as well walk to Loutro. Maybe it's a bit farer as to Chora Sfakion, but after the first few meters which are a bit steep, you walk a nice easy path, all along the sea. It takes about an hour, and you can get the ferry boat back to Chora Sfakion in Loutro.

Here you are with Zaros. The Memorial shows 20 names of people who died between 1940 and 1950 (and some more of other periods of time).

There are several rent rooms in the village. I had a room in Idi-Hotel (Single room 30€ incl. breakfast), half way from the village to the small and beautiful lake. The swimming pool in front of the hotel has been build by the Germans. Unfortunately they didn't focus on constructing swimming pools....

Vathy - mention: there is a small stone on the right hand of the memorial for 3 children (one month, 1 and 6 years) who have been killed by the Germans, when they burned the village.

P.S: Sorry, I just have read some other threads after posting this message and I see, that you already know about the cruel death of the 3 children. You can find a picture of the stone in the kreta-wiki also (I want to avoid link spamming).

Floria Memorial
Here you are with a picture of the Cretan memorial in Floria. There are many more pictures of memorials in the kreta-wiki, though still many more are missing. For the non-German-speaking visitors it might be the easiest way to find the places by clicking the 'Ort im Nomos...'-Links here and you will get a small list of places, which have already articles.

Concerning Archanes - there is a memorial at the plateia between the old school and the Panagia-Church. I can post a picture within the next days.

Best regards
Annette

Hi Ishall, I would like very much to read Appointement in Crete also, and a few other books, which I did not find until now (e.g. Hide and seek, The stronghold). May be the list of sources in our Wiki may be interesting though for you, if you scoll down, you'll find that there are many more books in English than in German, and some interesting weblinks also: Kreta-Wiki Sources

I do not want to practise link-spamming here, I just thought that it might be difficult for non-German-speakers to find the few English information in the Wiki by themselves.
