Hi Aurelia,

If you have no positive replies here you might think of posing this query to Erno on the forum in the site below. He works in Chora Skafion and is usually very informative and up to date on current events in the area.

Hi Aurelia,

There would be absolutely no camping on site and that I seen in the past there no rooms are available either on site or even nearby for that matter, the entire site is enclosed and protected and while I am not sure of the law regarding camping on Crete most of the surrounding land is private and given to agriculture so there would be no facilities.

Have a look at the last day on this page, images 3 through to 5 were taken from the hill overlooking Phaestos and should give you an idea of surrounding countryside.

In Topic: Naturism Near Makrigialos

Hi Max,

As I said the officially organised tours are banned however a resident there did tell me that a friend of his organised a trip recently where they 'accidentally' bumped into the island, and as they had already caught a few fish and had refreshments aboard they decided to have a barbecue while there.

So when you get to the village it would be no harm to ask around; he did say that if there were enough bodies to be got to make it feasible another 'island bumping trip' may be in the offing.

Hi Spinalongamax,

I notice that you mentioned Koufonisi island as a possible day trip; I had hoped to do this in October but have found out recently that the powers that be have :o banned excursions to the island for the moment, obviously while decide how best to protect the the Roman amphitheater and ruins. While it does not appear to be a priority but thought you should know.

In Topic: Greece Says No To Parthenon Marbles Loan

Dead right, that was a bit of cheek there really:

"We have something that actually belongs to you, however, as a gesture of good will to show that we are not all bad we will loan you some of your belongings, but only for three months"

Did they really expect the Ministry to say thank you very much Sirs.

Thanks for the petition Amando.
I finally got to see the Parthenon a year and a half back and was thrilled. The restoration work was really taking shape.
