In Topic: Will The Crisis Affect Your Next Summer Holidays?

16 March 2009 - 05:19 PM

The crunch is affecting London & the South East big time. Pete is a London Taxi driver (Black Cabbie) & he has noticed over the last year a massive decrease in his income, he now earns less than half of what he used to. Fortunately he owns his cab,all be it being quite old ! (a bit like us needs some repairing!!! ;) ) He often used to pick up city financial workers, but now they are not allowed to take a cab unless they pay for it themselves, most now catch a tube or walk.
Things are going to take a long while to recover not just here but in many countries. We do hope that it does'nt have too much effect on Crete & Greece as it would be devasting to the tourist industry. We are really wanting to return this year, but we may not make it :D After having a 3 week holiday in & around Crete last year & having such a wonderful time we will be sad not to return this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we may pick up a good deal. :)

In Topic: Driving From Heraklion

27 January 2009 - 10:59 PM

Hi Lil. that is correct, you take the E75 all the way & take the 3rd exit on the right & then it takes you back round straight into the airport. We drove all over Crete last year & had no problem whatsoever. Returning from Vamos to Heraklion airport was very easy. The car hire company will give you a very good road map so you should'nt have any problem. Good Luck Pat & Pete.

In Topic: The 11th Day - The Battle Of Crete

17 October 2008 - 11:05 PM

We sat and watched The 11th Day, it's the first time either of us have watched the documentary, it was very moving, the resistance movement & the people of Crete were amazing, it brought tears to my eyes watching & listening to all those brave people.
It's a shame that some of our misguided youth of today cant take after those very incredible people & their determination to save their lovely Island & the inhabitants of Crete.
Thank you Lars for enlightening us.

Easyjets flights end on the 2nd of November, & their new timetable comes out then as well. Not sure if their going to be flying in the winter between November - early March. Failing that you could probably fly to Athens & then on to Crete. Pat & Pete.
