Happy New Year to all members, old and new.
The forum has been quiet of late after being off line for quite a while earlier, as a couple of people have posted recently, which is a shame. I am as guilty as others - I do visit quite frequently and think must respond to this topic, but then cats need feeding, meals need cooking, shopping to be done...... and the days just slip past.
Anyway a couple of responses I should have made earlier -
Aurelia, I hope your book goes well, it does sound interesting and I will get round to buying a copy.
Santo - hope you do manage to come to Crete next year, and if you do you're on a three-line whip to at least come to stay with us for a couple of days (as long as you don't mind cats).
Retired in Crete - thanks for your recent posts and hope you're having a good winter.
We're now moving into our 3rd year living in Crete and have no regrets. Life isn't perfect - tragedies happen here as well as anywhere else. Three friends have died over the last 18 months, a couple of our well-loved cats have got ill and died, but apart from that life is good. Every day (when the weather is good) we wake up and look at the White Mountains, we can have breakfast outside for 8 months of the year and not needing to work at all only do what we want to do when we want to do it.
Anyway, Happy New Year again and if anybody is in our area (near Kalyves) do contact and we can at least meet up for a drink or meal.

It is a shame that it has become so quiet here. I think maybe Facebook becoming so huge might have something to do with it. I always pop back in from time to time to see if there are any new topics of conversation though.

I still haven't managed to make my move permanently YET, but who knows what 2013 will bring?
I'm still travelling back & forth, around 6 times a year & regularly meet up with Dinny! We are only about 30-40 mins drive from each other. She did mention last time I saw her, beginning of December, that she hadn't seen you since we met up in Sivas, gosh, was that really nearly 3 years ago now?
I'm out again in January, March, May (for Greek Easter) & will also be out again towards the end of June, as I WILL be going to the Matala festival this year!!!
Maybe an Explore Crete meeting could be held either in May, as I know Birgit & I think Tim, will also be in Crete then, or in June for the Matala festival?

Ros, you're right, it's has been YEARS since we had an ExploreCrete Dinner - and as you say both I, Tim and Brigid will be in Crete for Greek Easter, then why not? I have to meet at least you and Dinny anyway - that much is already arranged.

I am happy seeing some life in this forum, does not happen too often. I have often wondered how you were getting along, Pam, but I assumed that no news were good news, you are enjoying your life in Crete, which is all that matters.
But it would be wonderful to meet up again in May, if we can make it to find a date suitable for everybody.
Maybe we could have the Christo lamb up in Asisis (hope I did not get the name wrong again, keep forgetting), which Ros introduced me to, and it is simply fantastic, the place and the food!
If Ros could put you up for the night, it would be just perfect.

Ok, the name of the village, to which Dinny is referring to is ASITES, the name of the lamb dish is Anti-Christo Arni.
The Taverna there also has apartments to let, but I would be happy to put someone up, I have a spare double bed!
Who knows, maybe even Yannis might manage to make it this time. I think he knows the area well & it's only a 20km drive for him!

Yes, it is nearly 3 years since our dinner in Sivas, so definitely time to organise another one and Asetis sounds good.
Sorry we haven't been in touch, Dinny but while we've both stayed in reasonable health (apart from Bob having a bad attack of gout last Autumn and currently is suffering from bronchitis), we've been somewhat preoccupied with other things some good, some bad. Apart from the normal stuff like tending and watering our garden, plus looking after a growing number of cats - we let one of our female cats have kittens last year so watched them grow up from birth, which was a joy, we've also been supporting one friend through the break-up of her long-term relationship and another one through what proved to be the terminal illness of her husband this year. Hopefully next year will be better! Also, we shouldn't be so committed to needing to water the garden through the summer as we now have agricultural water supplied and Bob will be laying in an irrigation system before the dry weather comes,
