You can help yourself on this and many other questions by using the search facility for explorecrete's main site. Yannis has put a wealth of information on the site for us all.

Dear Roeland,
Go to Google Maps, go to Heraklion and print out the different city area's where you want to go.
Even the one way streets are indicated, which is very helpfull in the hectic center traffic!
Never the less: put your car on a parking lot and explore the city by foot.
The archeological museum is very central, near to the "Plateia Elefterias", park your car on the parking next to it (costs 4 euro for a whole day) and visit Heraklion from there on.
Greetings,
Charming

We always park our car close to the old harbour. Where the locomotive used to be. Close to the busstation. It is also a paid parking, but only 2,50 euros for a whole day.

At that crossroad near the old harbor, road works are in progress: they are making the roundabout bigger and the street that goes to the harbor entrance (Akti Nearchou) has already become smaller. There are now only 2 lanes in each direction and from now on it ‘s forbidden to park any car in that street. So I think you ‘d better avoid looking for parking space in that area for the moment.
