Residents of Exarchia in Athens turned a parking lot into a small but much-needed park almost overnight. In the space of one weekend they got together to transform the area into something positive for the local community, complete with benches, flower beds and a playground. For every resident, Athens offers a mere 2.5 square meters (eight square feet) of green space, one of the lowest ratios in Europe.
Isn't it time that we follow their example in Crete also?
