Hi,
Allow us to introduce ourselves.
We are David & Glenda, currently residing in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
After a false start we have purchased a property in Skopi through the auspices of LINK REMOVED BY ADMIN - READ THE FORUM RULES!
The house is situated on a small street at the bottom of the village and we have lovely views across the valley.
We've met the neighbours and now have a stream of steady orders for the leaves from our big tree for the neighbour's goats!
The purchase was relatively painless and Jim et al who run the business look after us very well.
The only problem we now have is the renovation costs exceeded our expectations and some serious discusions are needed and perhaps a change of plan.
I've added a picture of the house after we spent a couple of days cleaning up the garden area.
Due to a change of holiday plans ( never trust Easy cruise!) we are having a fortuituous trip next week to re-appraise our plans with the builder and, hopefully, buy some furniture.
Regards
David & Glenda Butler

Hi Folks,

Let me be among the first to congratulate you and offer my best wishes to both of you. Had a look at your property on the site and it looks good.

The only renovation projects that ever come in under or on the original budget are those done by the owners themselves; and these are nearly always guaranteed to take at least twice the length of time you allowed, and
you could still add a few more days of weeks for good measure.

I am sure it will all be worth it in the end.
May your days and nights in your little piece of Skopi be both pleasant and long.

Regards
Bobo

Hi, your experiences will make a great blog - we will enjoy hearing about how you get on with your renovations - just remember if a workman says he will come in the afternoon they probably mean evening. If a workman says he will come tomorrow he means some time in the future and if he says he will pass by he just wants a coffee and raki!!

But as I always tell my husband the reason we love Crete is because it is different to the UK.

Best wishes
Kritsa Yvonne

Thanks for your messages.
Since my first post we have been out again and through the auspices of another Crete House owner found a new Builder who really seemed on top of the game.
We've had progress shots as the work has progressed and we're flying out on saturday to hopefully see the completed work and do any snagging
This is the last photo of the back of the house shoing the new extension and extended balcony. and new opening from what is the kitchen area. the roof on the extension ( to the right) is reinforced to be strong enough for a hardstanding.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all
