Now is the time that the turtles are hatching. Can anyone tell me where the best place in Crete is to see the turtles hatching out and running down to the sea.
There are places that I have heard of - Gerani, Hania. Rethimno whatever - I have also heard of Messara Bay, but what I want is to see hatching turtles running to the sea. So where is the best place to see this?

Hi Ray,
I'm afraid I have no idea, but I guess you could ask the Chania Turtle Conservation Society. I can't seem to find an internet site for them, but you can see the Turtle nests they've found and protected along the coast west of Chania - if I recall correctly, they do havea phone number on them to encourage people to report newly laid nests.
Failing that, you could try a Scuba diving operator. They are variously knowledgable about marine conservation in their local areas.
Best of luck!
