O.K. promised Papous to tell some about the Cretan boots.

There are mainly three types. The working boot, the sunday boot and the dancing boot.
The working boot is tough and made for walking the rural paths, whereas the sunday booth is to show off. The dancing one is made of a beautiful white painted soft leather which makes the Cretan dancers jump for joy B)

I bought mine in Timbakion but in general people buy them in Chania in the " Skridlof", just off Halidon Street. But that one has become very popular among the tourists.

The ones I bought in Timbakion had an ingenious extra; a very subtile litle extension at the heel of the boot that made it very easy to put them off. (left foot on the little extension of the right boot and than push the left foot downwards, a peace of cake :D Very practical when you have a plenty full belly....)

The man must have died by now, ( I bought them in 1980) but maybe the shop ist still there  )

B) Of course you can dance with these boots on Wally but I wouldn't advise it. It's like dancing in a porcelain cabinet....

And Susy, I don't know why the link to the dancing boots doesn't work on your pc. Must have something to do with your (safety) settings. It works fine with me and the others neither seem to have a problem. Except for Wally, his' turned out to show something extra ordinary motor boots ;)

Thank you Skolo,

That's why I replaced the link with the picture.

No Sheila, I don't wear them anymore. They fell apart 2 years ago. But still, 25 years of service is a long time...
don't you agree?

Linking directly to an image on another site is called "hot" linking and it is not allowed by many servers. The problem is that if you link to an image, then you use their server's bandwidth to show their images on another site.
The proper way to do it, is to link to the page containing the image, for example: http://www.greekdanc....org/darold.htm

On the subject of boots, I have just come across the following amusing comment in an official report from an SOE officer based in Crete in April 1944. He writes, at the tail end of one of his reports;- "After every boat I have complained about the work of our tame shoemaker. These complaints continue. Moreover, old hands who have been wearing his boots for six months are still uncomfortable in them. He should be either shot, sacked, returned to the Greek Army, or indeed landed here in a pair of his own boots"
I guess he was not best pleased!
