Yaniis (or anyone else) is there somewhere an Anglophone can find out if the gorge is open without going to Omalos to find out?

if that someone is in Crete, then it is very easy to ask at one of the many travel agencies that sell tours to Samaria.

Sheila,
with the heavy rains we had for the last two days, I am sure the Samaria gorge will be closed until the weather gets better and the rain stops.
You should warn your friends that even if the gorge is open, another risk they may face if the weather is bad, is that there may not be any ferries from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia if there are strong winds in the area. In that case they will not be able to return to their hotel until the weather improves and it is a risk if they have to fly back home in a day or two.
