Add a picture to your message, when this picture is already on a different website or on a different server. In this case you don't use the ADD ATTACHEMENT option, but you just place a link to this photo in your message.

In the text editor, click on this button:



A new window will open:



Here you should type the url (address) of the picture you want to include.



EXTRA NOTES:

1. Please avoid linking to copyrighted photos from other websites. It is called hotlinking and it is a practice to avoid.

2. Linking to a photo instead of adding it as an attachment to your message can be convenient if you want to include a picture which is bigger than 500KB. What you can do in this case, is to upload (transfer) the photo from your computer to an image hosting website, like http://www.imageshack.us/ .



You don't need to register or pay any fees, although (free) registration will give you extra advantages. The Firefox toolbar from Imageshack is very convenient too, if you plan to add photos frequently. Adding a photo is easy and when the file transfer will be succesfully finished, you will get the code that you need to add in your message. This will automatically show a clickable thumbnail of your photo in your message.

Hi Emma (and Yannis only to copy because he knows of this),

When using photobucket and probably other similar sites in combination with the add picture button on the forum and you paste the copied url inclusive the http:// (hypertext transfer protocol) into the pop up window you have to delete the http:// either from the url you are posting or the one in the pop up. A double protocol results in an inexecutable url.

I did one below but it even won't show up.

This one did because it was pasted directly in the message.

And this one will show the picture without linking when using the add picture link with removing the double protocol.

You can also add a hot link by inserting a protocol I can't describe here because it ends up in rubbish.

hmmmm I'm usually aware of deleting the extra http:// so I can't imagine that was the problem.

I'll give it another go later.
