We've just returned from our first visit to Crete, where we stayed at the Vassia Beach hotel & Apartments in Sissi. Having read some of the very positive reviews on this site before we chose this hotel, we were nonetheless a little nervous about what we would find; we needn't have been! The recently-refurbished hotel was faultless - it was clean, staff were helpful, everything was well organised, and the food was excellent. Even the entertainment, whilst not being to our taste, was family-oriented and well-presented. The location was fabulous, with the sea in full view from the rooms, which were well-proportioned, air-conditioned (good job in 40 degree heat!), with good facilities including a bathroom with separate bath and shower, fridge with an initial stock of free drinks & fruit and free internet access.

The residents seemed to be evenly split amongst British, German and Dutch and all got on well. We hired a car from the resident Sixt rep (after some exhaustive haggling!) and explored the area from Agios Nikolaos in the East to Heraklion and found Sissi to be an ideal hub. It's quiet-ish, but there is a good choice of tavernas and bars to frequent in the evening if a change of scenery from the hotel's 3 restaurants is required. Although clearly a tourist village, it's a million miles from the brash commercialism of Malia and Hersonissos.

All-in-all, this was a first rate hotel with everything thought about and catered for with the minimum of fuss and the maximum of hospitality. Any requests were speedily and efficiently handled. Fantastic holiday and thoroughly recommended hotel. Hope this helps you. Cheers.
