My partner is self employed duct erector (fits air- conditioning!) After speaking to bar owners while on holiday and finding out how much they were paying for a simple system, My partner reckons he could probably do it a lot cheaper and earn us a good living! The thing is we haven`t got a clue about where to start!! We also have a 6yr old daughter. Where is the best place to live? schools? contacts? legal issues? Can any1 help?!

I'm a bit ahead of you in this type of project, since I'll be moving in just 2 months and 10 days
.... And the time is passing S L O W L Y
For starters, I found a lot of info on a page called All Things Greek: HOWTO (a sort of a diary of a couple moving to Greece).
And then I ask here! :wink: (they might have grown tired of me by now, ehehhe)
And then, of course, I'm the lucky mother of a daughter already living in Crete... that helps a lot too.

We have just sold our home in the UK & will be moving to Crete in August (my wife, 7yr old daughter & I).
The difficult part is recognising you are ready for a life change & that it is not a 'holiday' dream.
Before you can even think of competing with the locals in business, you need to think of family, friends, schooling, health care, language, accomodation, babysitters, immediate finances, removal costs.........just to list a few.
list your life priorities & then investigate each individually.
Good luck & if we can be of help, send us a personal mail.

Tamar also be very aware that "Most" business here goes to who people know, or friends of friends or family not just because you can do it a little cheaper. Be prepared and budget to wait a LONG time before you make enough "friends/contacts" to make a living Ok!

I would really like to buy this book, but it seems to be impossible! Every time I click on "buy" I get to a log-in page, I fill in all my details but the page doesn't accept not filling in "Area" if "my" area is in Italy. Then I insert "Manchester" just to do something, and it's accepted. The I go to check-out and get the message that I'm already in the system. Back to shopping kart and check-out .... and I get transferred back to the page where I need to fill in all details....
Sgrunt! I hate internet shopping when it drives you crazy! :evil:
As for now, I've given up.... will have to learn everything the hard way :cry:

Dinny - sorry you are having problems with the log-in / buy on the publisher site for the book. Once you have 'registered' your details, go back to home page and LOG in with your email address and password, and continue to checkout again and it should work this time!

Thanks, Carol! I finally managed to get the book. 
I'll be busy studying it for the next few days to get an idea of it's contents, and it'll sure come in handy when - and not if - I run into problems. :wink:
......... and many hours later I can confirm that the book is definitely covering every angle, well, at best when you're British, but still a dane migrating from Italy to Greece might find most of it useful. The red tape part is a bit scary not knowing the language and all.... so now I'll continue with my Greek-in-Three-Months course, which is actually a very good course to learn Greek.... I wonder how I will get by in Crete with that heavy "mainland accent" I'm building up!
