We're now back from a VERY enjoyable holiday in Kalives,we ate at O Gialos on the first night and revisited to celebrate our friends Birthday also - Thanks Mike & Jane.We were lucky to get room 9 in Zourpas ovelooking the mountains which certainly were splendid ,especially in the early morning light.We visited many tavernas during our stay and they were all pretty good,however for location we preferred the Medusa\Mistraili side of town,but also enjoyed Zorbas on the square and Provlita.As I mentioned earlier we have been holiaying in Greece since 1985 and more recently in Stoupa,which we loved.However we all agreed that Kalyves was our favourite to date mainly because it is a Greek working town with little English influence.We didn't go to Kourmos - will save that for another visit.However we did enjoy visits to Aptera & Hania.Also the "girls" walked to Almerida whilst the men walked the Samaria Gorge(token gesture!).
Thanks to everyone for their advise and we hope you all enjoy your holidays as much as we did.

Sorry Honey - it wasn't that your response wasn't appreciated- no offence intended.Appreciate replies from all and certainly feel that we have a little more knowledge of Kalives now.

We are due to arrive in Kalives in just under 4 weeks now and getting quite excited.Our flight times have been changed and we now land at Chania at 8.30pm,so expect that it will be after 10pm when we drop off at the apartment.Could anyone suggest a taverna\snack bar central to the Twins and Zourpas(with directions) ,preferably overlooking the sea.After the journey(via Santorini)it would be better if we could pre arrange a place to meet and have the first drink and meal of the holiday.Obviously at that time of night we won't want to have time to walk around the resort looking for each other.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Thanks Dave for all your efforts.At that time in the morning will not expect a full menu just a beer and a snack,the first Mythos\Amstel in Greece is something that is anticipated with joy many months before each holiday!The moussake\kleftiko can wait until the next day.Look forward to any further information you can give.

We have just booked our first visit to Kalives for August next year,we are staying at Zourpas and my parents are staying at the Twins(with Kosmar),could some one advise how long it takes to walk between the two please?From reading brochure descriptions we are assuming that one ,maybe 5-10mons from the square in one direction and the other an equal distance in the other direction?Also we are due to land at Chania at midnight (flight changes permitting!),will there be anywhere open for a drink and\or snack when we arrive in Kalives?
We have been holiday in Greece for over twenty years ,most recently we have visited Stoupa twice and we love it here but felt we needed a change.We like eating in Greek tavernas by the sea,and try to avoid the more commercialised places,hopefully Kalives fits the bill.
