We've all heard/read about the heavy storms and floods on Crete (and other islands, but my hear beats for....
). I sincerely hope that (although there must be huge damage in some parts of the island) everyone living and residing in Kriti is safe and sound.
Those heavy rains,... if they were tears, someone must be crying her/his heart out. Maybe you wonder why I make this comparison, or maybe not, but I am going to tell why anyway
The last few years, coming an going on Crete, I take a taxi for my transfer to and from the airport. The driver became a good acquaintance (it would be a bit presumptuous to call him a friend) over the years cause of the fact I always call for the same guy.
So, two years ago when leaving to go home, Yannis was there to take me to Nikos Kazantzakis airport. Being a romantic soul he's always playing CD's of "Love," "Pain of Love," "Heart," "Beauty," "Eyes," and "Kisses" and sometimes singing along out loud and telling about his beautiful wife. This morning though there was the Greek music but no singing. I guess he noticed me being sad -as I always am when leaving Crete-. For the first time in years on this 'journey' the sky was cloudy and for the first time that spring a little rain started to fall. Says Yannis : "you see, Kriti is crying too cause you're leaving".
Beautiful thought, isn't it.
