Forum Friends

Explore Crete is a great forum for making virtual friends but the last weekend of May 2007 was a special event as several members had arranged to be in Matala at the same time. We were looking forward to seeing Dinny again plus meeting Pam & Bob, Birgit, Yiannis and possibly some others.

We decided to take a direct route towards Matala (in the middl...

Hello From Kritsa

I know from previous PM’s that some people have taken notice of comments I have made in blogs when planning their own road journeys to Crete and this is probably the most useful comment I will ever make – Arrive in Ancona on a Sunday!!!!!! No traffic, no hassle and most beneficial of all very few trucks!!

Great Easter But......

What a great Easter we have had; wall to wall sunshine, several walks to enjoy fantastic scenery with spring flowers in abundance and all within 30 minutes drive from home.

Although we saw plenty of lambs there was not a goat or donkey to be seen, no chiming church bells were heard, no fireworks and definitely no dynamite.

So for an English Easter it...

A Donkey Tale:

Did you know that you can get delicious milk from goats? In some dry, hot countries there is not enough fresh green grass for cows to eat so there is no ordinary milk for people to drink. A goat is happy to eat twigs and leaves and in return gives very nice tasty milk.

I know a country like this called Crete. In Crete there is a villag...

Voina, Sun, Rain And Snow

Posted by Kritsa Yvonne, 11 November 2006 - - - - - - · 1,317 views

Since my last blog we have had a mixture of dull and wet or bright and sunny days plus an unseasonable day of snow but we put them all too good use by walking, sightseeing or preparing the house for winter.

We have walked to Voina Spring in the hills above Kritsa, between Kathero and Tapes before but it wasn’t until we read some of Tim’s foru...

October In Crete

Posted by Kritsa Yvonne, 04 November 2006 - - - - - - · 1,901 views

Before I get started I would like to say thanks to the people who have taken the trouble to add a comment onto this blog or send a PM. I hope you can understand that my time on line in the internet cafe is limited to how long it takes Alan to drink a beer or a frappe so a quick scan of the forum, uploading a new blog and checking my home emails leaves li...

Chania Holiday

Posted by Kritsa Yvonne, 17 October 2006 - - - - - - · 1,330 views

As we are only having one visitor from the UK to stay with us this year we decided to have a treat ourselves and visit Chania for 4 nights. Each year that we have spent a chunk of time in Crete we had intended to visit the West but until now have never made it for one reason or another.

We set off early on Monday 25th September reaching Chania late morn...

Operation Tim's Road

Posted by Kritsa Yvonne, 22 September 2006 - - - - - - · 1,219 views

Since my last posting our main activity has been topping up our tans on various beaches and getting to grips with some of the many books we have brought with us.

Wednesday 20th September started off with a cloudless sky so we set off for a visit to Tholos beach but by the time we arrived there were heavy clouds visible all around. After lunch the clouds...

"home" At Last

Posted by Kritsa Yvonne, 13 September 2006 - - - - - - · 1,328 views

On Thursday 31st August we arrived in Kritsa an hour later than expected at 8.00 a.m. Our neighbours were out and about watching in amusement as we unloaded the car that seemed like a Tardis due the amount Alan had managed to pack in.

This time our load included three items of flat pack furniture each in large oblong cardboard boxes that had formed the...

Hello From Aboard Ship

I am enjoying this posting, making it sound like we are keeping in touch but really rubbing it in that we are almost "home" in Crete.

We have had a very uneventful journey (so far) and that is good as it means we have had no hassles.

We put our foot down hard and whizzed through France on Sunday reaching Switzerland for an overnig...
