After a long time not beeing here I've to excuse myselv about it. But sometimes live goes another way ourselves want to go...
But now:
On time I have a question, on which I think, its not a special question about crete. But Crete is a part of greece and my question belongs to greece at the time 1946-1949. It was the time of the civil war in greece. And it was the time of the paidomazoma. Thousends of children were kidnapped in the nothern parts of greece and brought to the commonistic parts of europe. Most of them never come back.
Others returned in the early sixtis. But they didn't found their identities back...
I know the books of Nicolas Gage and Panaiotis Gekas. All documents of that time...
So - anybody can tell me more about it? Any links?
Many thanks in advance
Yours

first at all wellcome here on board

You've found a very nice stay for your holiday in Matala.
The bus to Iraklion goes 4 times a day and needs 1 1/2 hours. Here is the link to the ktel-krete, the busservice:
KTEL-CRETE
Matala has very nice beache - its really to far away to go by bus to elafonissi and chrissi. So - take a walk to the red beach or to komos beach. Go to Pitsidia, Kamilari and Kalamaki. In Pitsidia you'll feel real Crete life.
By boat you can go to the holy gorge - agio farango. Also the monastiry of Odigitria is nearby. Try to visit the marked of Mires every Saturday...
As Pam did try to hire a car or a bike and find place, you'll not reach with a bus...
A week in Matala is very short. There is so much more to see as Pam and I told you... But - I think you'll enjoy also your 7 days...

Some photos of the area Matala
Kind regards

also a great welcome to this site and congratulations to your silver wedding in advance.

I think, it's a great idea to celebrate this at crete...
Where will your flight go??? Chania or Iraklion??? And when do you want to go to crete? June? July? This year? Next year? It would be easier to give you an advice, if we know a little bit more...
Do you and your family like more the culture, the nature or only enjoying the crete way of life???
A villa near the sea??? Or nearby the mountains???
Good food and good wines you'll find everywhere at crete... So - tell us al little bit more

Kind regards

#6981 New Airport For Iraklion

As much as I like crete, the airport Iraklion is the most chaotic I`ve ever been. But - I love the Airport Nikos Kazantzakis.

Let's wait together for our baggage more than 1 our, let us try to find out, on whitch baggage conveyor belt we will see all, what we need on crete and let us enjoy the crowds of people when staying at the airport for leaving crete...
But what we will loose, if the airport will change???
The moment, to see the mountains by flying to Iraklion? The smell of a mixture from cerosin and the herbs of crete, when we are alowed to leave the plane? And at least the nearness of one of the most fascinating towns we know???
8 years are 2860 days ... 10 years are 3650 days .... or 73000 cigarettes
Lets enjoy until then the surperb disorganized airport Iraklion, while knowing which each cigarette we are coming nearer the airport kastelli...
Kind and dreaming greets

But:
Go trough the island and see what you will find. For my opinion it is not nessecary to place nice looking women in the nature of crete. If you have the eye, you'll catch so much good fotos.
Knossos is nice to take fotos - but everyone does... Also Festos and Gournia. But if you are able to take fotos whitch are different from the others, it will be good.
If you can go to the sfakia and in the mountains or generell in the southern parts of crete you will find very good motives...
Kind regards

The Patris from 2.11.2005
I don't know, how much is true. But are here any user from crete are knowing more??? The harbour shoud be bigger than the harbour of Piraeus. Premier Karamanlis will be on Crete on the 17. of December. Members of the chinese shipping company visited Crete in the last time...
So - hoping of getting answers
kind regards
