Topics I've Started

Tourist, Traveler, Explorer, Expert....

03 September 2009 - 08:14 AM

Yannis

Could you please explain these categories? I've guessed that they depend on numbers of posts made, but if so, the effect is that someone who makes a lot of posts gets to be an "Explorer" or an "Expert" faster than someone who may know Crete better but is a less prolific poster.

You may have gathered that I've got myself in mind. :) I've been coming to Crete every year, sometimes two or three times a year, since 1981 and have travelled all over the island, in the last 15 years mainly in the southwest. When I write posts in answer to people's questions I use such knowledge as I have and think my posts are usually helpful. At least I hope they are. So, while I don't post a great deal I would have thought my experience of Crete would by now have qualified me as at least an "Explorer", if not an "Expert".

And yet, alas, I'm still stuck at the "Traveller" stage, where I have been for at least two years. What can I do to get myself promoted? Besides deluge you with multiple posts, I mean. :)

All the best,

Julie

Flying From Heraklion Airport

20 April 2009 - 12:40 PM

After many years of arriving at and departing from Chania airport, this time I will be flying with Easyjet to and from Heraklion for the first time. As I will be travelling with hand baggage only, I've checked in on line for both flights, and printed out my boarding passes.

Can anyone who has done this can tell me if I'm likely to have any difficulty at the airport for the return flight? Does the chaos that I remember from a couple of Heraklion trips long ago (and which I understand still applies) allow for by-passing the check-in desks? As the Easyjet flights are new to Heraklion, I'm wondering whether the airport "system" accommodates the Easyjet system

I'd like to know so that I can realistically estimate the amount of time I'll need at the airport before the flight.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Eating In Iraklion - Trying Again

20 March 2009 - 04:00 PM

Hasn't anyone ever had a good, reasonably priced meal in Iraklion? I can't believe it, so I'm trying again.

Here's a copy of my last week's post:

I will be in Iraklion for one night on 5 May on my way to Chania and Loutro the next day. My Easyjet flight arrives at 20.55, so supper will be late. I'm staying at the Irini. I'd love recommendations for a nice, central, traditional and reasonably priced eating place that will still be open after 22.00pm. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
