We are having a house built in Crete (Georgioupolis), which should be completed in December 2004.

Our intention is to spend at least a year in Crete starting in mid- 2005.

we want to buy a car ( 4 seater pickup truck).

Can somebody help with the process of buying a car, whether its best to buy second hand and where to buy a car without getting fleeced

Hi Harry

I think the genuine 4 seater pick up trucks have only just become legal in Crete. Before then there were only two seater ones with a small bench seat squeezed in behind. The second hand market then will be very restricted. There are also restrictions on who can buy pickups, you have to declared an income and pay tax on a business which can prove it needs a pickup. I don't know if the four seater ones are classed as cars or pickups. All secondhand cars in Crete are grossly overpriced. I decided to pay an extra 3000 euros and buy a new one with a five year warrantee.
