We are coming to visit the regio Sfakia and Plakias in May .we have interest in visiting churches and seeing old fresco's ,but like in many places in Crete the churches are closed. Sometimes we you are lucky you can find the key somewhere or by someone in the villages. I was wondering if anyone knows some nice churches in the area and are interesting and that we can visit inside? ,.

Can anyone help us

Thank you

Roeland

Buy the Blue Guide. It usually tells you where the key is.

Hikerroeland, neither the Blue Guide nor any other guide will tell you where the key is - certainly not the keys to the remote churches in the area of Sfakia that you are planning to visit. The way to find the keyholder is to ask when you are in a village. The key is often to be found in the cafeneion, but if it isn't the owner will probably know who has it and where you can find it.

The photo was meant to appear as an avatar. (I am not a cafeneion owner or a churchkeyholder. :-)
