We are John and Jan from the UK, and have been visiting Crete for a number of years. Sometime in the last five or six years we came across a memorial to Dudley Perkins, aka Kapitan Vassili, in the vicinity of Lakki on the road to Omalos: we have not been able to find it on subsequent visits. Does anyone know if it has been moved? NB I am not talking about the small plaque set in the rock at the side of a road somewhere around the same area. but a large free-standing (marble) structure in an open 'layby', which had text in Greek and English explaining that he had been ambushed and killed near the spot. We are visiting again next month with friends, and would really like to see it again.
