Hello everybody . My name is Fotini. I am Greek and moved in Chania 2 years ago , from Thessaloniki. I got engaged almost six months ago to a Cretan man .Life here is way more peaceful than in Thessaloniki , which is something I actually enjoy a lot . I forgot to mention that my young brother is here too and he's already got married with a Cretan woman .

..and may I be the second. Welcome to a great site. You will find that there is a mixed bunch of members here, but the thing that unites us is our love of Crete. Look forward to reading your postings.

Hello,

It will be realy good to see postings from your "local" perspective - perhaps the things that you find different to Thessilonika as my knowledge of Greece in general is quite low.

My opinion is that Cretan tend to be more traditional in some way than citizens of Thessaloniki . I really enjoyed the preparations before my brother's wedding . That was the first experience I had concerning Cretan tradition . I can still recall many things , one of which was that a big dinner was held at my sister's in law house . All of the visitors who came , brought gifts such as their own lambs whom they had recently slaughtered. I had never seen that thing before in my life. The reason why they did so i beleive was that they want to give as present something of their own .

geia soy ki esena Manoli:)

That sounds like so much fun.

Makes a change from the exquisitely wrapped toaster or wine glasses which tend to be the standard gift at UK weddings.
