We have been holiday in Greece for over twenty years ,most recently we have visited Stoupa twice and we love it here but felt we needed a change. We like eating in Greek tavernas by the sea,and try to avoid the more commercialised places, hopefully Kalives fits the bill.
Thanks in advance.

Although I go to Kalyves, I'm sorry but I don't know these apartments but will look in the brochures etc and find out and let you know how long I think the walk will take.
Honey may well contact you as I believe that Zourpas is where she went this August. PM her if she doesn't
If you are arriving in Chania at midnight it may well be 01.00 before you get to the town and by the time you find the apartments another 30 minutes or more. I'm an early bird (I need my beauty sleep) and leave a restaurant about midnight or soon thereafter but there are folk (usually Cretan/Greek) arriving quite late. I would think that one problem may be that you wouldn't have much choice from a menu. There is another member who actually lives in Kalyves (Mythos)and he may well answer your question better than I. I'll make some enquiries and if I find out anything I'll PM you.
I'm sure that you'll enjoy the bustle of the town and the welcome of the many tavernas and restaurants.

Dave is quite right, I visited Kalives in September, been back just 2 weeks now. Stayed in Zourpas appartment.
The appartments were quiet as they were approx 5 mins away from the beach and set back from the road a little way, just behind a supermarket (very handy). The appartments themselves were quite basic, but clean and typically greek. (There is a kettle -I know some greek apparts don't have them). The rooms are cleaned twice a week, however linen towels/sheets only changed once a week....extra towels may be needed.
Have a look for the big fish in the stream in front of the appartments.....throw them some bread and they will come and feed!
The proximity of Twins from Zourpas is not too far at all. Walk down the road toward the sea. When you reach the crazy corner (you will see why...watch the traffic, very amusing) with the Laundry on it, turn right at the laundry, pass the internet cafe and continue up the hill passing the shop that sells everything!, Twins is a little way up there on the right. There are small roads opposite that take you right down onto the beach.
There are a good few tavernas along the beach front. Mistrali, Medusa, a good Pizza taverna and a Fish taverna to name but a few. All have very friendly waiters and staff.
The tavernas in the town are also very good. We ate out in greek tavernas every night and didn't have a bad meal at all.
We too have holidayed in Stoupa, we enjoyed it there very much, and also enjoyed Kalives......
Hope that's helped a little, if you need any more information, I'd be happy to help!

We are due to arrive in Kalives in just under 4 weeks now and getting quite excited. Our flight times have been changed and we now land at Chania at 8.30pm,so expect that it will be after 10pm when we drop off at the apartment.Could anyone suggest a taverna\snack bar central to the Twins and Zourpas(with directions) ,preferably overlooking the sea. After the journey(via Santorini)it would be better if we could pre arrange a place to meet and have the first drink and meal of the holiday.Obviously at that time of night we won't want to have time to walk around the resort looking for each other.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

We hope you love Kalives as much as we do, we recommend that you visit The Koumos during your stay. It is signed from the town centre. Go towards the National Highway in the direction of Kalami then at the large Inka supermarket turn left and follow the signs. The views and the taverna are magnificent. Zourpas is very nice, lovely gardens and very well kept. Not all the apartments have great views, but you might be lucky and get a view of the mountains, splendid.
During the daytime Gialos has free sunbeds for diners, and I noticed on our last day that Mistrali has a bar service on the beach, so you don't even have to move off your sunbeds to get refreshment. Have a wonderful time.
