Hello all!!

I am new to this forum and I've never been to Crete, yet.
I am getting married next September and we really fancy Crete as a honeymoon location!!!

We went to Zante this year and we really loved it, the Greek people, the fab food and lovely weather.

Can you experts reccommend a location for mid 20's couple for a honeymoon? We want a nice hotel, but not too posh and expensive (weddings are expensive events!), we would like suggestions for a resort that has 'stuff' to do, but isn't Bris-ified (if you know what I mean?).

We normally go 'budget' for holidays, but want a nice 4* this time for our honeymoon. We always would choose smaller as they tend to be friendly.

I leave it in your experienced and capable hands.....

Hi Aaron
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.

If I was coming to Crete for my honeymoon I would choose somewhere in the south of the island, because while the north is lovely, the south is not as comercialised as the north. It just strikes me as more romantic.

Hello Aarond,

Congrats on the upcoming wedding!

I would have to say somewhere west of Chania this way you are close to a wonderful town where you can easily get to for strolls, meals, entertainment, etc but you will not be right in the middle of too much confusion. I would recommend hotels in the Kalamaki, Stalos, Agia Marina and Platianias area.
A small hotel like Ammos near kalamaki is quite nice, there are many others in these areas but I do not personally know many of them. There is a wealth of knlodge out there about Crete and hotels. Make sure to read people's write ups and recommendations. Good luck in planning the perfect honeymoon in Crete!

Ideally we want somewhere:

*which has or is near a really nice beach
*has a nice nightlife with chilled bars and restaurants (nice selection of)- somewhere where you can sit and find new friends to chat and have a laugh till the wee small hours - but not too OTT eg Malia / Laganas in Zante
*Nice mix of couples and no kids on the beers!
*not too quiet - in that it has one or two bars or early closers!

Is it unrealistic?? I heard Platanias, Rethymno and Ag Nik were close??

Thanks in advance

Platanias and Rethymnon have everything that you describe. I would choose Chania or Rethymnon though. Platanias misses the local colour and it may prove boring if you want to see something besides the beach and the bars.

Like our webmaster, I too would recommend Chania. It has just about everything - maybe with the exception of a really nice beach by the town itself, but access to some of the best places in Crete to visit, maybe for a day or two, are readily available. You can fly directly to Chania (the airport is named after a truly great Cretan hero!), and you could do a lot worse than setting up base in one of the many very nice hotels in the west part of the Old Town.
