#15114 Coming Back To Crete

Posted by armando on 19 February 2009 - 03:56 PM in Living in Crete

The ship enter in the Iraklio port, while the sun is rising

we just point to South Coast crossing the isle, while many of the "inhabitants" :) are still sleeping

Posted Image

.. coming finally to the last hill, from which the road drop until the Lybic Sea, that we see again with great pleasure.

Some more bends and here we are!
One pause in order to greet the friends ... we can have our deserved frappé, with the eyes lost in the blue of the sea and of the sky, and in memories bound to the place

Posted Image

then we can park the camper near "our" olive tree that, as usual, give us his shadow while we rest or we read some book

.. now it's really "home" ;) .

(sorry for my English .. but I hope the "spirit" is readable)

#15019 Using Greek Characters Instead Of Greeklish

Posted by armando on 23 January 2009 - 04:18 PM in Explore Crete

Yes Katarina,
I meant just this thing, saying "full use of greec" in my message over.

The only problem is for some Forum boards that not allow Greec Characters anyway (also with ISO or Greec in View), or in systems (like for example Terminal Server in work environs) where setting Greec Lenguage is not easy or possible as in PCs.
In these cases could be useful an "alternative way" also with limitations.

Bye
Armando

#15014 Using Greek Characters Instead Of Greeklish

Posted by armando on 22 January 2009 - 05:09 PM in Explore Crete

I installed Greek Keyboard in Windows Control Panel and that's the result

α β γ δ ε ζ η θ ι κ λ μ ν ξ ο π ρ σ τ υ φ χ ψ ω

But not in all forum boards it works .. for example in an italian forum where I speak about Greece with italian friends is not possible to see these characters

For this reason I was looking for a different solution more "compatible".

Anyway .. here it's OK B)

γεια σας
Armando

#15011 Using Greek Characters Instead Of Greeklish

Posted by armando on 20 January 2009 - 05:16 PM in Explore Crete

In general I know following alternatives:

1) install on the PC a Greek keyboard (full use of greek, but some problems in installing in some PC or OS)
2) use "symbol" font (only letters, without puntuation marks. Not possible here as the board does not use Symbol)
3) use latin characters as in ISO 843 (like in greek road indications .. in the past, after they changed a littlebit) es. "egò agapào tin Krìti"
4) use this form: "egw agapàw thn Krhth" .. (may more exact then 3, but terrible to see, in my opinion)

What exactly you mean for "greeklish"? may be 3) or 4)?

Is it possible to add the Symbol fonts set on the board editor?

Thanks and bye
Armando

#14916 Doctor In Keratokambos

Posted by armando on 04 December 2008 - 01:25 PM in Crete Gazette

Hallo Tim
I was there in september :D

Posted Image

I went there the first time in 1982 with a friend by car, and the following year in motorbike with my girlfriend (now is my wife); we had a home rent in Keratokampo but spend so much time in Kastri at the tavern of Manolis (unfortunately dead two years ago: now his son Nectarios owns the tavern). I know also Giorgo, as may be you remember.
One spot in which we went often in that years was the beach after the actual new Church, another was Listis. I remember very well some dinners without bread, because the bus driver had a free day! :D
Really the place changed so much (o chronos pernai grigora ), mostly in the last years as new houses are raising everywhere .. anyway it has always "something magic" for us :D
The last week end my wife and me went near Aachen (Germany) for the birthday party of our friend Volker, a real lover of Kastri (see his site www.emporia.de) that we knew there in Crete some years ago.
May be next days we'll return to Keratokampo for a very short trip ... I'll bring your greetings to Giorgo :D

All the best
Armando
