There Is A First Time For Everything……..

Previously when we have travelled by road to Crete we have not booked any accommodation in advance. We felt that booking in advance creates an additional stress of “having” to get to a certain place by a certain time and then what happens if we cant find the place? Well the answer to that is of course minor irritation leading to a full-scale row as tiredness and frustration takes over.

However, this time we are planning a shorter trip on a route we know well so we have booked overnight accommodation at a very low cost Formule 1 in Boulogne so that we can make a nice early morning start. We are crossing the Channel with Speed Ferries (beat the pirates) the evening of Saturday 26th August once all the Bank Holiday travellers have passed through. (48 return for a car and two passengers - can’t be bad)

The Sunday evening we will return to our tried and trusted “wait and see where we are” and then on Monday we are booked into a hotel in Pesaro. We have stopped in this town a couple of times before so we are reasonably confident we will find the hotel.

This will give us the option of either lazing by the pool for most of Tuesday before driving to Ancona for the 5.00 p.m. boat to Patras or, if we have energy, we can drive on to just beyond Ancona to explore a very attractive part of Italy.

Then, we aim to be drinking tea on the balcony 7.30 a.m. on Thursday 31st August.

I will let you know if things go according to plan in due course.

OK, so now I will get on with my work – I only have 3 weeks, 4 days and 4 hours to do. biggrin.gif

I agree with you that having booked in advance puts a little stress on things, like "what if *.*" ...

But I have also experienced that sometimes it might be a good idea. Like recently, when I went to get an ex-colleague of mine at the Chania Airport, ETA 21:30, actually she arrived around 1 in the night and we left the airport only by 1:30. So where do you go out-of-season and find a place to sleep at 1:30 in the night? blink.gif

We didn't... we just had to drive on. Had a stroll and a nice cool beer in Rethymno at 3:30 ... and a lovely breakfast in Heraklion at 6 before going South. Next time I'll book in advance! dry.gif

OK, you should be about 4 hours closer to the target by now! smile.gif (ehrm, had to edit that, you only posted half an hour ago! Hang in there!)
